Welcome to General Music with Mrs. Bilott
I am so excited to be working with your child this school year in elementary general music! We will be focusing on singing, playing musical instruments and reading music notation. In 4th grade, students will be given a recorder to further work on those skills throughout the year. By the end of the year, your child should be able to keep a steady beat, read rhythm notation, talk about the use of the lines and spaces, sing in a singing voice and of course tell you how much fun we have in class.
We will be using a curriculum through Quaver's Marvelous World of Music! Students will be working with an interactive white board as well as a classroom set of ipads from time to time to reinforce the skills we learn.
Grading is based on skill based assessments that are quickly completed in class. They are not typical paper and pencil tests, but stress free observation of skills that students can complete. Students will also receive a participation grade based on our MUSIC rules (Make good choices, Use kind words, Show respect, Involve yourself, Care of instruments and equipment).
If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask! Email is the best way to reach me during the school year: email@example.com.
Mrs. Bilott's bio:
I have been teaching music for 18 years! I graduated summa cum laude with a bachelors of instrumental music in music education from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. I then received a masters of science in education with an emphasis in instructional technology from Walden University. I also completed the PMEA leadership academy training. My career started teaching 7-8th grade music in Renoldsburg, Ohio, then I taught 6-12 instrumental music and high school music electives in Charleroi School District. I started teaching at Norwin in 2006 in the middle school where my responsibilities included band, general music and chorus. This will be my third year teaching elementary general music at Sheridan Terrace elementary school and Hahntown elementary school. I remain active playing clarinet in Westmoreland Symphonic Winds and stay in involved in my professional organizations being a member of PMEA (Pennsylvania Music Educators Association) and WCMEA (Westmoreland County Music Educators Assocation) where I also served as vice president, president and past president of the organization. I have had published articles regarding general music in the PMEA news magazine. I firmly believe in giving back to the organization as my classroom is host to many student teachers as well as a classroom of students that visit me from Duquense University each winter. At home I stay very busy with my three daughters and my husband.
Consider having your student attend Performing arts day at NORWIN MIDDLE SCHOOL Saturday, February 29th from 9AM till noon. See the attached flyer below!
