Welcome to General Music with Mr. Matta

I am so excited to be working with your child this school year in elementary general music! We will be focusing on singing, playing musical instruments and moving to music. By the end of the year, you will hear all about how much fun we’ve had making music together and learning all the way!

We will be using Quaver Music for our curriculum - a seriously fun approach to learning music.

Grading is based on skill (singing, playing, and movement) performance assessments that are quickly and regularly completed in class.

My goal has always been and continues to be to inspire children through music and to instill in them a genuine appreciation for music specifically, and for the arts and all of life generally. I will create a safe, fun learning environment that helps develop students into well-rounded people.

Immediately after earning my undergraduate degree in Music Education from Duquesne University, I was hired as the Choir Director at my alma mater, McKeesport Area High School. I served there for two years, after which I continued my education with a full scholarship to Carnegie Mellon University for a Master’s degree in French horn performance. Seeking to broaden my teaching experience, I then served as a music teacher at Paynter Elementary School in Baldwin-Whitehall for two years. Subsequently, I enlisted in the United States Air Force, where I served for over thirteen years as a professional band musician throughout the country and the world.

Upon departing the Air Force, I obtained a position as an Elementary Music Specialist in San Antonio, TX, where I have taught for the past eight years. My tenure has been marked with great growth and success, but my family and I have decided to return home to be near family in North Huntingdon.

It has been my delight and honor to be the Music Teacher at Sheridan Terrace since 2023!
