Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge at Sheridan Terrace

Dear Sheridan Terrace Families,

Again this summer, Sheridan Terrace is promoting and supporting the value of reading with a challenge.  Students are being introduced to the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge this month by their teachers.  They will tour the site, enter their school-time reading minutes, and learn more about how reading in the summer is a great idea!  For them to fully participate in the Challenge over the summer time, I will need your help.  Below is important information about the Summer Reading Challenge.  The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge site opens for students to input minutes on Monday, May 6th. Each student will receive a log-in paper that lists a unique username and password.

On the back of each log-in paper is a minute tracker.  Your child can fill this in as he/she reads and then enter reading minutes on the Scholastic site when convenient to do so.

This is how reading minutes are entered…

Go to https://www.scholastic.com/summer/home/.

In the center of the screen, students will click “KIDS, SIGN IN HERE.”  They’ll answer “Yes” to a question about whether they received their log-in information.
They’ll enter their Username and Password.  Click “SIGN IN”.

They’ll see all kinds of features on the next page: Weekly surprises, Timer, My Minutes, My Badges, Map, Resources, and Video.  “My Minutes” is where they will enter their minutes read.  Each week during the summer, I will send an email that reminds Sheridan Terrace Families to encourage summer reading.  If families need log-ins/passwords reset or have questions, they can email me at any time throughout the summer.  I’m happy to provide information that is needed for all children to participate.  The challenge will end on Sunday, August 18th.   All minutes need to be entered by Friday, August 23rd.

Each student’s reading minutes will be tallied and three levels of awards will be given:
All students who log minutes will receive a “I love to read” pencil.  Between 500 – 999 minutes = Pencil + Kickball game in the back field, planned for after lunch on Friday, August 30th (early dismissal day).  1000+ minutes = Pencil + Kickball game + Scholastic bucks for the fall Book Sale scheduled for the week of September 9 – 13th.
Please let me know questions about the Summer Reading Challenge.

Thank you!
Dr. Newell
